North Strabane man charged in sexual assault case

Canonsburg police charged a man Monday after he was accused of sexually assaulting a teenager.
Luis Alessandra Fernandez-Maldonado, 21, of North Strabane Township, faces felony charges of statutory sexual assault and corruption of minors, and a misdemeanor charge of indecent assault.
According to the criminal complaint, a 14-year-old reported in November 2024 that Fernandez-Maldonado had recently assaulted her.
Charging documents state that Fernandez-Maldonado drove alongside the youth while she was walking on East College Street and repeatedly asked her to get inside the vehicle.
According to the complaint, in a follow up interview the girl said she had recently met Fernandez-Maldonado and arranged to meet him via Snapchat.
In an interview with investigators in April, Fernandez-Maldonado allegedly admitted to a sexual encounter with the victim, but said it was consensual and he believed she was over the age of 18.
Fernandez-Maldonado claimed he stopped communicating with the girl after learning she was 14 years old.
Charges against Fernandez-Maldonado were issued via summons. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Nov. 25.
