Canonsburg police charged a man after he allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend on Tuesday.

Joseph Jankowski, 34, of North Strabane Township, is charged with felonies of prohibited possession of a firearm, strangulation, and misdemeanors of reckless endangerment, terroristic threats and simple assault.

According to the criminal complaint, at about 11 a.m. Tuesday police were called to an apartment in the 200 block of College Street.

Charging documents accuse Jankowski of grabbing Amber McKinney by the throat and throwing her against the wall. Jankowski allegedly took possession of McKinney’s firearm and threatened to kill her and himself.

Court records accuse Jankowski of pointing the gun at McKinney.

Jankowski was arraigned Tuesday afternoon before District Judge Eric Porter, who sent him to the Washington County jail on $100,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. Oct. 28.
