Multiple departments respond to Canton Township fire

The state police fire marshal is investigating the cause of a fire in Canton Township Sunday evening.
According to Canton Township Fire & Rescue Chief Chuck LaBella, crews were called at about 7:40 p.m. to 1148 W. Findlay St. LaBella described the structure as an “auto repair shop.
“There was heavy smoke and a fire coming out the garage door,” LaBella said, noting that two cars inside were burned.
A man who rents the building was out of the building and not injured in the fire. However, LaBella said he had a “rapid heartbeat” and was hospitalized as a precaution.
According to LaBella, Washington Fire Department was the first to arrive and quickly knocked down the fire. South Strabane and North Franklin fire departments also responded.
The scene was cleared by about 9 p.m.
LaBella said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
