A Fredericktown woman is seeking the Democratic nomination for state representative in the 50th Legislative District.

Lois Bower-Bjornson owns and operates two micro-businesses and is the Southwestern Pennsylvania field organizer with Clean Air Council, a nonprofit environmental organization that focuses on public education, community advocacy, and government oversight to enforce environmental laws.

She is a graduate of Bethlehem-Center High School and holds a dual degree from West Virginia University in dance and communication.

The mother of four children, Bower-Bjornson is a staunch advocate for human rights, women’s rights, and a supporter of environmental rights, she said in her campaign announcement.

She said she decided to run for office “to move Pennsylvania forward.”

“It’s time for Southwestern Pennsylvania to move forward with new, invigorating ideas for our future,” said Bower-Bjornson. “This doesn’t mean we let go of the old, but we mold it into something positive for our future.”

She said she plans to work hard, protect the people and shared values of residents of the district, and be a thoughtful steward of the community that she is proud to call home.

The district covers all of Greene County and portions of Washington County, including roughly two dozen municipalities in the southeastern part of the county.

Republican Bud Cook currently represents the district.
