Work begins on eatery, market in northern Washington County
Work has started on bringing two new businesses in northern Washington County.
In Peters Township, a building at 615 E. McMurray Road has been torn down to make way for a new restaurant. Though initial plans were for the eatery to be the third location of Coughlin’s Law, it will now have a different name.
“The name of the restaurant has changed. It’s going to be called Common Ground. They have an approved site plan, and an approved permit,” said Peters Township Manager Paul Lauer, adding that the owners remain the same.
Co-owner Brian Vetere previously said they hoped to open the restaurant by fall of this year.
Coughlin’s Law, which is a gastropub serving American food, has two locations at Mount Washington in Pittsburgh and Ohio Township, Allegheny County.
The Peters Township planning commission approved the development in November. The proposal calls for a 6,630-square-foot restaurant with 1,640 square feet of outdoor seating and 77 parking spaces.
According to Washington County Property Records, the property was purchased in December for $850,000 by Six Hundred Fifteen Southbound LLC.
Lauer said demolition began at the property in January, and he expects construction will start soon.
“I think like everyone else they’re waiting for the weather to break,” Lauer said.
In North Strabane Township, a new location for a popular Italian market is underway. The former Kings Restaurant at 580 McClelland Road will soon become a new Leonard Labriola’s Italian Market.
Labriola’s also has locations in Aspinwall, Warrendale and Monroeville. Owner Leonard Labriola previously said they plan to open in the spring.
Labriola’s purchased the property in September for $2,725,000.
North Strabane Township Manager Andy Walz says Labriola’s has a demolition permit for the property and work has begun on the interior of the building.
When a reporter visited the property recently, there was a large dumpster in the parking lot and the inside had been mostly gutted. Labriola had said they are only remodeling the interior and not demolishing the existing building.
Labriola’s sells cheeses, deli meat, pasta, homemade sauces, bread, desserts, and prepared meals.
