The suspect in a shooting in the city of Washington on Thanksgiving morning turned himself into police Monday.

Washington police Chief Steve Devenney said Brennan Mitchell Cole arrived at the police department on West Strawberry Avenue at about 6 p.m.

Cole, 32, of Houston, is accused of shooting a man in the foot after being denied entry to the Washington Community Club at 127 N. Main St. He had been removed from the bar for getting into a fight, and tried to go back inside to retrieve his coat, according to court documents.

District Judge Gary Havelka arraigned Cole shortly after 10 p.m. Monday. Cole was released after posting a $50,000 bond through a bondsman, according to Washington County Correctional Facility Warden Jeffery Fewell.

According to the criminal complaint, police were called at about 2:30 a.m. Nov. 27 to the Washington Community Club. When Cole was denied entry, there was an altercation outside the bar that involved multiple people pinning Cole to the ground. When he was allowed up, he fired multiple shots, one of which struck Cory Whitlock in the foot, according to court documents.

Police have not provided an age or address for Whitlock.

Whitlock was the “bouncer” for the Washington Community Club that evening. He was initially transported to UPMC Washington Hospital, and then to UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Cole faces felony charges of aggravated assault and carrying a firearm without a license, as well as misdemeanor charges of simple assault and reckless endangerment. He is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing at 11 a.m. Jan. 14.
