Local hospitals recognized for patient safety
Several local hospitals have earned statewide and national honors for patient safety.
UPMC Washington, Allegheny General Hospital, AHN Jefferson, and St. Clair Hospital were among 22 hospitals recognized through the Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania’s (HAP) 2025 Excellence in Patient Safety program. The program highlights hospitals with low rates of health care-associated infections based on data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Healthcare Safety Network.
To qualify, hospitals must outperform the average standardized infection ratio in three key measures: central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI), catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI) and Clostridioides difficile (C. diff) infections.
