Mail carrier injured in Carroll Township dog attack

By Karen Mansfield 1 min read

A postal worker was seriously injured in a dog attack in Carroll Township while delivering mail last Saturday.

The postal worker was attacked at around 1 p.m. as he approached a home on Dry Run Road, near Ringgold High School, to deliver a package, according to Carroll Township Police Chief John Korcek.

“EMS responded, we responded, and animal control is investigating,” said Korcek. “If there are any citations, animal control would issue them.”

The man was attacked by a Cane Corso that weighed about 150 pounds, police said. According to the police report, the dog broke through a screen door as the postal worker walked up the porch steps to drop off the package.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital. His identity and condition have not been disclosed.

Korcek said the police department has received complaints from neighbors about the dog over the past two years. It had not attacked anyone before Saturday’s incident.

Carroll Township animal control officer Kym Secreet did not respond to a phone message by press time Thursday.

The USPS in Monongahela also did not return a phone call seeking more information.
