A sign on a door at Outback Steakhouse on Washington Road in Washington indicated the restaurant has closed.

Outback steakhouse is closing one of its longstanding locations.

The restaurant at 460 Washington Road in South Strabane Township shut its doors on June 22, and all Outback signage has been removed from the building.

A sign on the door read, “This location is now closed. Visit Outback.com for the closest open location.”

A spokesperson for Bloomin Brands said the restaurant was closed because its lease is expiring.

The spokesperson said some team members will have the opportunity to transfer to a nearby restaurant and also will receive a transition bonus.

One former employee posted on Facebook that employees were called the morning of June 22 and informed the restaurant, which has been operating at the Washington location for 20 years, was closing permanently.

“We appreciate the community’s support the past 20 years and look forward to serving you at our St. Clairsville (Ohio) or Coraopolis restaurants, the company said in a statement.
