Fentanyl found in infant; Chartiers parents charged
The parents of a 4-month-old girl in Chartiers Township are facing charges after the infant tested positive for fentanyl.
Chartiers Township police charged Darrell Lee Diaz, 39, and Katrina Marie Post, 31, on Tuesday with a felony of endangering the welfare of children.
According to the criminal complaint, on Nov. 24 Post took the child to UPMC Washington Hospital due to the child being lethargic and sleeping more than normal. There was fentanyl in the baby’s system, and she became alert after receiving a small dose of Narcan. The baby was transported to UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Charging documents state that Post told investigators she had left the baby with Diaz that morning while taking her other child to the bus stop.
According to the complaint, police learned that Post would obtain fentanyl for Diaz and help him inject it.
The day after the baby was hospitalized, Post allegedly texted a friend that she did not know it got into her child’s system “when it’s not even around her.”
Charges against Post and Diaz were issued via summons. They are scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing at 1:30 p.m. March 17.
