North Strabane supervisors mull potential golf cart ordinance

By Jon Andreassi 2 min read

The board of supervisors in North Strabane Township will decide next week if they will move ahead with an ordinance that would allow golf carts in certain neighborhoods.

Officials will vote at their meeting Tuesday on whether or not to have their solicitor, Sweat Law Offices, draw up the ordinance.

Harold Close is the supervisor pushing for the ordinance.

“It’s for the more populated HOA, and non-HOA neighborhoods, for younger folks to be able to get to some of the other amenities these communities provide,” Close said.

Close says he envisions that golf cart riders would need to be licensed and have insurance. He notes it would only allow for golf carts to be driven within housing developments.

Close used the Meadow Lake neighborhood as a specific example. Meadow Lake has more than 100 homes, a community recreation center and a pool.

“This may be another opportunity for younger people to get out, not sit in their houses. It’s just a way to get people around the neighborhood,” Close said.

If the supervisors decide to move forward with the idea, the adoption of such an ordinance would still be a ways off.

“This is not to approve or not approve. Do the other members of the board of supervisors have an appetite to look into this?” Close said.

The North Strabane supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
