Ringgold teacher accused of having marijuana vape at school
A Ringgold elementary schoolteacher was charged Wednesday with possession of marijuana after she was accused of having a marijuana vape at the school on Oct. 14.
Tami M. White, 58, a fourth-grade teacher at Ringgold Elementary South, was arrested by Ringgold School District police on charges of possession of a small amount of marijuana and use/possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the criminal complaint.
In a statement, Superintendent Randall Skrinjorich said, “The District is aware of the reported allegations involving an employee who was allegedly in possession of a prohibited substance on school grounds. The District does not permit or condone the alleged conduct reported with regard to any employee.”
Administrators discovered White had the vape, which smelled of marijuana, around midday on Oct. 14, according to the complaint, and an initial test apparently tested positive for the substance.
“The District takes these matters very seriously and is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and appropriate environment for all students and staff. The District will follow all applicable policies, procedures, and protocols in addressing this matter.”
Skrinjorich said the school district will not release any additional information or provide additional comment.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. Nov. 25 before District Judge Mark Wilson.
