Threat prompted modified lockdown for Bentworth School District

The Bentworth School District was on modified lockdown most of the day on Wednesday after a phone call that "was perceived as a threat to a staff member,” said Superintendent Scott Martin. He said all of the district's schools were subject to the lockdown because the buildings are close to one another. During a modified lockdown, operations inside the school buildings continue; however, visitors are not permitted past the vestibule and students are not allowed to go outside for any reason. Buckling road closes lane on Route 88 through Charleroi

A section of Route 88 through Charleroi that was closed for months after a trench collapsed over the summer has been restricted to one lane since Friday after the roadway began to buckle, although borough officials said the two incidents are not related. The issue near Eighth Street was first detected Friday after the surface of the road began to crack, prompting borough public works crews and state Department of Transportation workers to inspect the problem. East Washington man charged with endangerment

East Washington police arrested a man Wednesday morning after he was accused of firing a gun inside his apartment. Jarvis Prather, 33, of East Washington, faces misdemeanor charges of reckless endangerment and simple assault. According to the criminal complaint, at about 12:20 a.m. police were called to Prather's apartment at 418 E. Beau St. for a report of shots fired. When officers arrived, a woman and a child exited the the home.
