Merle Clayton Watters

Merle Clayton Watters, 89, of McDonald, Mt. Pleasant Township, died Saturday, December 22, 2012, in Washington County Health Center, Chartiers Township.

He was born May 15, 1923, in Oakdale, a son of the late William C. and Gertrude Kirk Watters.

Mr. Watters was a supervisor for Fort Pitt Bridge in Canonsburg for more than 40 years.

He enjoyed classic cars and woodworking and could fix anything.

Mr. Watters was a World War II veteran, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater as a member of the 158th RCT Bushmasters receiving several medals during active duty. He was a member of Canonsburg Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191.

Surviving are his wife of 31 years, Dorothy I. Tilger Watters; stepdaughter Deborah (Charles) Geisler of Hickory, stepson George (Michelle) Slates Jr. of Weirton, W.Va.; two granddaughters; a grandson; two great-grandchildren; brother Kenneth Watters of Dormont; sisters Carol Klemanski of Dormont and Barbara Ann Perrett of Meadville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Deceased are a sister, Naomi Wheeler, and a brother, Charles H. Watters.

Friends were received Wednesday in Thomas-Little Funeral Service Inc., 5000 Noblestown Road, Oakdale, 724-693-2800, where a funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 27. Interment will follow in Robinson Run Cemetery, McDonald.
