Thomas Raymond Johnson

Thomas Raymond Johnson, 77, of Cape Coral, Fla., former longtime Washington resident, died Saturday, December 22, 2012, in Hospice House in Cape Coral, following a brief illness.

He was born December 11, 1935, in Washington, a son of Roland and Anna Weaver Johnson.

Mr. Johnson was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School, Class of 1953.

He served in the U.S. Army on active duty and subsequently in the U.S. Army Reserve.

Mr. Johnson was employed by Universal Cyclops Steel, Bridgeville plant, and later at Universal Cyclops Steel, Pittsburgh plant, for a total of 47 years from 1959 to 1998 in their hot mill production division.

He was a lifelong member of St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church.

Mr. Johnson loved hunting and fishing and was an avid Steelers and Notre Dame football fan.

His greatest joy in life came from spending time with his family and especially his grandsons.

On April 28, 1973, in St. Hilary Church, he married Eleanor Popeck, who resides in Cape Coral.

Surviving are two daughters, Jennifer Johnson and Cathy (Matthew) Sands, both of Cape Coral; four grandsons, Brandon Johnson and Michael, Kayson and Maxwell Sands, all of Cape Coral; and several cousins, aunts and uncles.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Dale D. DeAngelo Funeral Home, 1290 Jefferson Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 29, in St. Hilary Church, 320 Henderson Avenue, Washington, with the Rev. Thomas D. O’Neil as celebrant. Interment will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Washington. A full military rite will be accorded by the U.S. Army and American Legion Post 175 in Washington.
