Joseph E. Bender
Joseph E. “Snooky” Bender, 79, of Burgettstown, died Sunday, March 31, 2013, in his home.
He was born August 21, 1933, in Langeloth, a son of the late Earl Bender and Helen LaPacz Bender Seaman.
Prior to retirement, he was employed by Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp.
Mr. Bender was a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean War.
He was a member of American Legion in Burgettstown, Raccoon Valley Sportsmen Club and Bur-Lang Fishing Club.
Mr. Bender enjoyed going to the casinos, especially Vegas, but his favorite thing was going to the hunting camp in Clearfield with his two best friends, Bill Huber and Ray Taucher.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Shirley Windsheimer Bender; two daughters, Jo Ellen Gorby of Eighty Four and Susan (Robert) Klinsky of Burgettstown; three grandchildren, Erika (Brian) Lewis, Joseph Gorby and Ashlend Stavrakis; five great-grandchildren, Michael, Allison, Alex and Zachary Mounts and Barrett Lewis; four sisters, Anna “Dolly” Egbert of Burgettstown, Jean Boyer of Burgettstown, Helen Haber of Burgettstown and Shirley Spotti of Slovan.
Deceased are four brothers, Frank, Robert, William and Earl Bender; a sister, Loretta Gilbert; and a stepsister, Judy Lauderback.
Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Taucher Funeral Home, 23 Erie Mine Road, Burgettstown, where a blessing service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 3. Interment will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil, with full military rites accorded by Slovan-Burgettstown Veterans of Foreign Wars.
