R. Gary McLaughlin
R. Gary McLaughlin, 80, of Peters Township, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2013.
He was a son of the late Robert J. McLaughlin and Mildred Van Shuren McLaughlin; beloved husband of Phyllis Williams McLaughlin for 60 years; loving father of James, the late Michael “Fireman Mike” (Maureen), Pat (Stacey), Sean (Eve), Kathleen Gasper (Barry) and Brendan; loving grandfather of Michael Jr., Ryan, Kyle and Piper McLaughlin, Lisa and Garrett Dennis and Robert Correiro; missed by Jan McLaughlin; daughter-in-law Flavia Hirt; sister; and numerous loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. McLaughlin served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict.
He was a member of St. Benedict the Abbot Church, where he was a youth teacher and usher for years. He was a Cub Scout master for Pack 390.
Mr. McLaughlin worked until retirement for Cyclops and AK Steel.
He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 764 in McMurray, serving several positions, including commander. He was a longtime member of Washington County Democratic Committee.
Mr. McLaughlin attended St. Luke’s High School, where he held the record for highest academic scores. He also received the highest recorded scores in NCO School in the Air Force.
Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Beinhauer Funeral Home, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray, 724-941-3211. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 5, in St. Benedict the Abbot Church, McMurray. Interment will be in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.
