Edward Allen Carrico
Edward Allen Carrico, 72, of New Freeport (Springhill Township), died at 4:31 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2013, in UPMC-Mercy hospital, Pittsburgh, following complications from heart surgery.
He was born October 5, 1940, in Johnstown, a son of the late James Piper and Hazel Etna Bachman Carrico.
Mr. Carrico had resided in the Alliance, Ohio, and Marianna areas prior to moving to Greene County in 1967.
He attended Calvary Baptist Church at Lippencott and was a 1956 graduate of the former Bethlehem High School.
Mr. Carrico was a master woodworker and enjoyed making and selling woodcrafts of all shapes and sizes. He also enjoyed playing guitar, bow hunting and traveling in his motorhome.
He was an avid baseball player in his younger years and was invited to, but unable to participate in, the Pittsburgh Pirates farm system.
Mr. Carrico was a peacetime veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a specialist fourth class.
He was formerly employed as a policeman and an employee of American Steel Corp., both in Alliance, prior to being employed as an electrician for Vesta 5 mine, retiring in 1982. Following retirement, he was employed by Greene Arc as a woodshop instructor from 1985 to 1995.
On September 28, 1961, he married Norma Jean Yorty, who died January 3, 1995. On May 6, 1995, he married Judith Lynn Jacobs, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Edward J., husband of Karen Carrico of Springhill Township and David S., husband of Marivel Carrico of Silverdale, Wash.; a daughter, Connie L., wife of Thomas Yoders of Springhill Township; six grandchildren, Edward J.Carrico Jr., Rachel Marie and David Matthew Carrico, Elizabeth Carrico Skertich, Jeannie Yoders Burns and Tommy Yoders; a brother, Frank, husband of Cathy Carrico of Norwalk, Ohio; and a sister, Betty Robinson of New London, Ohio.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are a son, Dennis Allen Carrico, who died in infancy; a great-granddaughter, Kristen Carrico; two brothers, James and Daniel Carrico; and a sister, Lois Old.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the time of service, Sunday, April 7, in Rush Funeral Home Inc., Rogersville, with Pastor Nick Bardo officiating.
