Dorothy Louise Smith
Dorothy “Dort” Louise Smith, 87, of McDonald, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2013, in ManorCare Health Services, McMurray.
She was born January 16, 1926, a daughter of the late Jules and Louisa Biout Mercier.
In her young years, she worked in Pittsburgh. In her later years, she was a maid at the Holiday Inn, Tonidale.
She was a very, very loving mother and wife. Mrs. Smith had many friends who loved being around her.
She was a lifelong member of Calvary United Presbyterian Church, where she attended with her husband and son.
Over the years, she was a member of the McDonald Garden Club, McDonald Women’s Club and was Past Worthy Matron (1985-86) of the McDonald Eastern Star Chapter 119.
An avid Steelers fan, her favorite players were Terry Bradshaw, Big Ben, Jack Lambert and Heath Miller.
She was proud of her clown collection and her drinking cup collection. She loved her family, doing plastic canvas, crafts and reading Sandra Brown romance novels. She was a very gifted cook and prepared anything for her family and friends.
Surviving are her husband, Charles R. “Toots” Smith, with whom she would have celebrated 65 years of marriage in July 2013. Also surviving are a son, Charles Louis “Tootie” Smith, and his partner, Sandi Lynn Albertini; a brother, John “Jake” Mercier of Cuddy; five nieces; and four nephews.
She will be sadly missed by her two four-legged friends, Miss Sweetie Pie and Miss Molly.
Deceased, in addition to her parents, are two brothers, Joseph Mercier, who was killed in Guam in World War II, and Louis Mercier.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Thomas-Little Funeral Service Inc., 314 West Lincoln Avenue, McDonald, 724-926-2800, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 11.
