Norma Bachkay, 83, of Monongahela, died Thursday, April 11, 2013, in her home.
Born January 3, 1930, in Monongahela, she was a daughter of the late Ubaldo and Josephine Lisarelli Lombardi.
A 1948 graduate of Monongahela High School, she worked for seven years as the secretary for St. Anthony Catholic Church in Monongahela and then for more than 30 years as secretary for Transfiguration Catholic Church, retiring in 2010. She was a member of St. Damien of Molokai Parish, Transfiguration Church, in Monongahela and had belonged to its Altar Rosary Christian Mother Society.
Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda M. and Gerard States of Brentwood and Patricia Stuart of New Eagle; four grandchildren, Corinne (Darren) Miller, Stefanie (Jeff) Koskoski and Amy and Patrick Stuart; a great-grandson, Evan Miller; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Frank Bachkay, who died November 24, 1994; a son-in-law, James Stuart, who died March 29, 2002; and a brother, Mario Lombardi and wife Albina Lombardi.

James F. Bagnell, 65, of Monongahela, died Thursday, April 11, 2013, in his home.
He was born November 30, 1947, in Brooklyn, N.Y., a son of John F. and Ethel Bauman Bagnell.
Mr. Bagnell worked for the Department of Public Assistance, Valley Office, for 25 years, retiring as a clerical supervisor.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during Vietnam, Operation Desert Storm and Operation Enduring Freedom, in which he was a recipient of the Bronze Star medal for his exceptionally meritorious service to our country. He retired from the U.S. Army Reserves after 22 years of service.
Mr. Bagnell was a member of American Legion Post 945 in Harrisburg and National Rifle Association. He loved camping, fishing and most recently, ATV riding.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Hampton Bagnell, with whom he celebrated 22 years of marriage July 20, 2012, a daughter, Meghan Bagnell, a stepdaughter and stepson, Lauren and Stephen Olesky, all at home; and sons James Jr., Jason and Joshua Bagnell.

Freeda M. Gill of Washington passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2013, in Southmont of Presbyterian SeniorCare, Washington.
She was born in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Isaac (Isiah) and Christina Mizner Boop.
Mrs. Gill was a devoted homemaker. In her earlier years, she enjoyed boating, gardening, traveling and cooking for her family.
She was Methodist and a member of the Robin Club of Robinson Township.
Surviving are her beloved children, a son, Roger (Marion) Gill of Washington, and a daughter, Beverly Gill (John) Garwood of Roseville, Calif.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Also surviving are her two precious companions, Pamby and Honey.
Deceased are her husband of 43 years, Burton Gill, who passed away in 1977; a son, Ronald B. “Ron” Gill, who passed away November 1, 2010; and a sister, Harriet Ketter.

Mary B. Heaton, 62, of Washington, died unexpectedly Wednesday, April 10, 2013, in UPMC-Presbyterian hospital, Pittsburgh.
She was born July 9, 1950, in Washington, a daughter of the late Abraham and Bessie Baron Moses.
A graduate of Trinity High School, she received her bachelor’s degree from California University and her master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh in social work.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, children and grandchildren. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star.
A foster care supervisor for more than 20 years, she was employed by Children and Youth Services. She was very dedicated to foster children in the community, both at work and privately.
On December 6, 2001, she committed to her soul mate, Mary Anne Jankowiak, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, William (Tina) Heaton of Altoona; a daughter, Elizabeth Heaton of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a stepson, Chris (Tiffany) Jankowiak of Cecil; a stepdaughter, Michelle (Andrew) Jankowiak of Washington; two brothers, David B. (Bonnie) Moses of Columbus, Ohio, and Clayton J. (Carol) Moses of Austin, Texas; a sister, Sara Moses (Frank) Steratore of Pittsburgh; and four grandchildren, Victoria and Hunter Heaton and Jacob and Lucas Jankowiak.

Lois Thelma King, 87, of Hesston, died Wednesday, April 10, 2013, in J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon.
She was born November 10, 1925, in Washington, a daughter of Lawrence and Thelma Rumbaugh Cowden.
Mrs. King was a graduate of Hickory High School and was a homemaker.
She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and reading.
Before moving to Hesston, Mrs. King was a member of Crossroads United Presbyterian Church.
On June 19, 1946, she married Jesse C. King, who died August 29, 2001.
Surviving are a son, Jesse C. King Jr. (Annette) of Washington; two daughters, Karen E. King of Hesston and Dorris K. Hayden (James) of Huntington; two brothers, William (Lois) Cowden and Russell (Phyllis) Cowden; two sisters, Belva White and Evelyn Athey; six grandchildren, Sara Hayden, Matthew King, J.C. Hayden, Ian Hayden, Jessica King and Elyse King; four great-grandchildren, Jacob Hayden, Emilie Hayden, Aliss Hayden and Camden Henderson; and two brothers-in-law, Edward Schmidt and Jim King.
Deceased are two brothers, Alvin and Joseph Cowden, and two sisters, Ila Snyder and Nancy Schmidt.

William Anthony Kosmus, 65, of Parrish, passed away Friday, April 12, 2013.
He was a member of Parrish Church of Christ.
Mr. Kosmus served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War in the submarine force.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Catherine Close Kosmus, and his wife’s parents, Dana and Neva Cochran.
Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Diane Cochran Kosmus; sons Shawn Kosmus (Christy) and Eric Kosmus (Amanda); a sister, Barbara Fazzolare of llinois; a brother, Robert Kosmus of Pennsylvania; and grandchildren Landon, Hunter, Alex, Maddie, Patton, Carson and Kennedy.

George Kupar Jr., 85, of Washington, died Thursday, April 11, 2013, in Washington Hospital.
He was born May 13, 1927, in Isabella, a son of George Sr. and Susan Kundrat Kupar.
Mr. Kupar was a 1945 graduate of Ellsworth High School and worked as a coal miner for Beth Energy.
An avid baseball fan, he pitched for a Cleveland Indians farm team in 1948. He enjoyed gardening.
Mr. Kupar was a member of Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church in Charleroi.
On September 1, 1956, he married Gertrude L. Saveikis, who died May 18, 2007.
Surviving are a son, George J. Kupar of Washington; a daughter, Karen Zumpetta of Mt. Laurel, N.J.; a sister, Helen Magera of Cokeburg; and two grandchildren, Christopher and Alexandra Zumpetta.
Deceased are two sisters, Mary Wasulko and Theresa Krajnak.

Frances J. Lucy Macosko, 89, of Bentleyville, died Thursday morning, April 11, 2013, in her home.
She was born December 9, 1923, in Ellsworth, a daughter of Joseph H. and Frances Chester Lucy.
During World War II, she was a welder in the shipyards.
Mrs. Macosko was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Bentleyville.
She enjoyed gardening, making quilts and taking care of her dog, Jack.
Her husband, Joseph Macosko, died June 6, 1982.
Surviving are two daughters, Joyce A. Bishop (Timothy) of Greenville, N.C., and Karen L. Carlisle (Ken) of Bentleyville; three grandchildren, Kelly Tush, Kristen Deans and David J. Carlisle; a great-granddaughter, Addyson Deans; a brother, Willard Godfrey (Elizabeth) of Stockdale; two sisters, Margaret Belle Erdely of Bentleyville and Althea Snyder of Utah; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are three brothers, George F., Joseph H. and Herbert E. Lucy.

Walter H. Maund, 85, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 11, 2013.
He was born January 27, 1928, in Rices Landing, the son of Walter H. Sr. and Mary McMichael Maund.
He graduated from Charleroi High School. Following high school, he served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Mr. Maund enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a riverboat captain working for various private lines and retired after 37 years as captain of the M.V. Chartiers, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Following retirement, he and his wife moved to Sun City West, Ariz., where they enjoyed more than 20 years of nice weather and good times.
Playing cards, going out to eat, spending time with his granddaughters and musical theater were “a few of his favorite things.”
On September 4, 1956, he married Anna Mae Cosgrove, who passed away in Arizona March 3, 2009.
Surviving are daughters Linda M. Pecharka of Washington and Amy (Frank) Mavrich, and two granddaughters, Katie E. (James) Green and Emily M. Mavrich, of Canonsburg. He was preceded in death by his sister, Norma E. Celapino, and a brother, James, during infancy.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no services. He will be interred in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.

Robert K. Moore, 101, of Buffalo Township, Washington County, died Thursday, April 11, 2013, in Breese Personal Care Home, Claysville.
He was born March 16, 1912, in East Finley Township (Pleasant Grove), Washington County, a son of the late William Robert and Anna Margaret Crowe Moore, and had resided in Buffalo Township since 1924.
Mr. Moore had attended Rolling Hills Chapel Church when his health permitted and was a 1930 graduate of the former Claysville High School.
He was employed as an equipment operator for Buffalo Township for several years prior to retiring in 1989.
Mr. Moore was a member of the National Rifle Association, a charter member of Frazier-Simplex Rifle club, where he served on several championship teams. He was the national and state small bore rife champion in 1958, and he and his late wife were both inducted into the Washington County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame for marksmanship, she in 1988, and he in 1989.
He also was a former member of Claysville Volunteer Fire Department and a member of Claysville Sportman’s Club, enjoyed hunting and fishing as long as his health permitted and was a former CB radio enthusiast known as “grouse hunter”.
On November 24, 1932, he married Alberta Glendean “Bertie” Shaler, who died May 11, 1995.
Surviving are a daughter, Shirley, wife of J.D. Richmond of Claysville; a son Robert, husband of Lois Moore of Washington; seven grandchildren, B.J., Michael and Jay Richmond and Richard, Debra, Jeffrey and Lisa Moore; 12 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Leroy Shaler of Claysville.
Deceased, in addition to his parents and wife, is a great-grandson, Jason Brent Richmond.

Ruth McElroy Patterson, 81, of Waynesburg, died at 2:10 p.m. Thursday, April 11, 2013, in Golden Living Center, Waynesburg.
She was born Sunday, May 24, 1931, in Spraggs, a daughter of the late Henry Lee and Mildred Moore McElroy.
Mrs. Patterson attended Fairall United Methodist Church, Waynesburg.
She was a member of the Women of the Moose 888 in Waynesburg.
Mrs. Patterson enjoyed reading, bingo and crocheting.
She worked as a seamstress for Greeneway Manufacturing in Waynesburg. Mrs. Patterson also worked as a baby sitter and did house cleaning. At one time, she did the cleaning at Waynesburg Elks Club.
Her husband, William F. Patterson, died April 17, 2002.
Surviving are two daughters, Karen P. Eisiminger of Waynesburg and Linda P. “Sis” (Randy) Moore of Waynesburg; a son, James F.(Lori) Patterson of Waynesburg; five grandchildren, Brian Eisiminger, Betsy Hawfield, William Moore, Adam Moore and Kurtis Patterson; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Anna J. Johnson of Washington and Blanche Knabenshue of Weirton, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased is a sister, Ida McElroy.

Shane William Takacs, 38, passed away March 31, 2013, in Belfair, Washington.
He was born October 4, 1974, in Washington, a son of Theodore W. Takacs Sr. and Ethel (William S.) Howatt.
Mr. Takacs graduated as valedictorian of his class from McGuffey High School in Claysville in 1993 and entered the U.S. Navy shortly after.
Mr. Takacs is remembered as a can-do chief, critical to the resolution of many sailor issues. He was a keen and proactive sailor advocate, dedicated to development and creating opportunity.
His service included sea tours on the USS Kentucky abnd USS Maine. During his Naval career, he was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (seven awards), Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation (two awards), Navy “E” Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal (six awards), National Defense Service Medal (two awards) and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
Mr. Takacs’ hobbies included performing duties as a volunteer firefighter, motorcycles, high performance cars, drag racing, hunting and camping. His life was illuminated by the great outdoors.
Surviving, in addition to his parents and his stepfather, are his wife, Penny Lehew-Takacs; four children; his grandmother, Julia Takacs; two brothers, Teddy Takacs and Dwayne Takacs; and numerous aunts, uncles, niece, nephews and cousins.
His life and military career were honored with a military memorial service in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, followed by burial in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township. Doris Mae Wier, 87, of Wayne, Mich., formally of Claysville, died Thursday, April 11, 2013.
She was born October 25, 1925, in Elm Grove, W.Va., a daughter of the late Harry Hungerman and Olive Gray Hungerman Bryant.
Mrs. Wier was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, jigsaw puzzles and reading.
She was a member of Grace Bible Church in West Middletown.
On March 2, 1945, she married Arthur Wier, who died July 26, 2008.
Surviving are a son, Richard M. (Andrea) Wier of Washington; two daughters, Linda L. (Tom) Siefert of Macomb Township, Mich., and Deborah K. (Vern) Amos of Wayne, Mich.; a brother, Donald (Carolyn) Hungerman of Canal Winchester, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Heather (Mark) Losko, Michael (Autumn) Wier, Derek, Joshua and Jordan Adams, Jody Amos-Shirlin and Chad Amos; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a brother, Harry Hungerman Jr., and two sisters, Betty Adams and Sylvia Pintola.
