John C. Felton
John Conway Felton, 82, of Cherry Valley, passed away peacefully in his sleep Saturday, April 13, 2013, in his home.
He was born April 17, 1930, in Grafton, W.Va., a son of the late Floran and Audrey Phillips Felton.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955, he served as a helicopter mechanic, He was honorably discharged and received the National Defense Service and Good Conduct medals.
Mr. Felton worked in the coal mines in Morgantown, W.Va., before and after serving in the Air Force. After retiring from J&L Steel in Aliquippa in 1981, he worked for Wright Therapy Products in Hankey Farms, where he designed and assembled medical pumps.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Burgettstown and St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church in Bulger, where he faithfully served as an usher for Saturday evening Mass.
Mr. Felton loved his family, enjoyed his time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His pastime was sitting on his porch feeding the birds. He will be sadly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Eileen Harshall Felton; six children, Denise Miller and husband Bill, Bevian Bertovich and husband John, Dan Felton and wife Nancy, Shari Messina and husband Jim, Trina Thomas and husband Ken and Christine Hockenberry and husband Mike; 11 grandchildren, Bryan Miller, Dana Maltony and husband Brandon, Michael Bertovich and wife Kacey, Shaun Felton and wife Amanda, Zachary and Stephen Felton, Michele Thomas and companion Mike Gillingham, Justin Thomas and Nikki, Nina and Marc Hockenberry; three great-grandchildren, Max and Mia Maltony and Michael Gillingham; and two sisters Peggy Bonner and Charlotte Quinn.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are two sisters and two brothers.
A memorial blessing service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, in Lee & Martin Funeral Home, 73 Highland Avenue, Burgettstown. Inurnment will be held at a later date in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.
