George Pete Alexas
George Pete Alexas, 81, of Claysville, died Thursday, April 18, 2013, in his home.
He was born May 26, 1931, in Washington, a son of the late Pete and Bessie Karanzalis Alexas.
Mr. Alexas was the owner and operator of Shorty’s Lunch since he was eleven years old.
He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and received the Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the United Nations Defense Service Medal.
Mr. Alexas was a member of Sunset Lodge 623, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Washington Royal Arch Chapter 150, Northern Masonic A.A.S.R., Pittsburgh Supreme Council, Syria Shrine and Claysville Hunt-Kennedy American Legion Post 639.
He was a member of St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church.
On July 30, 1967, he married Alma Jean Wildman, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Thomas Alexas of West Alexander, John (Trudy) Alexas of Claysville and Steven (Leslie) Alexas of Washington; a brother, Pete Alexas of Washington; a sister, Georgia Kohl of Washington; and six grandchildren, Andrew, Noel, Ryan, Matt, Kaity and Stavros.
Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at noon Monday, April 22, with the Rev. Kenneth Schott officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Hunt-Kennedy, Post 639.
