Linda L. Carpenter, 75, of Canton Township, died Sunday, April 21, 2013, after being ill for several months.

She was born August 12, 1937, in Washington, a daughter of Harry Edward and Lida Lillian Mattax Polen.

Mrs. Carpenter was employed for 30 years by Brockway Glass Co. at Plant 7 in Washington, and later as a supervisor at Plant 5 in Freehold, N.J.

Surviving are a son, Wade Carpenter, and a daughter, Denise Porter, both of Washington; two brothers, Dennis Edward Polen of Washington and Ralph Leroy Polen of Waterford, Conn.; two grandchildren, David (Rebecca) Porter of Uniontown and Brandy Carpenter of Washington; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased is a sister, Carol Jean Swart.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Hummell & Jones Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, Thomas W. Hummell, supervisor, Douglas M. Jones, director. Services for Vincent Stanley Chmel Jr., who died April 18, 2013, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 25, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with the Rev. Dennis Donati, 63, of Eldersville, died Monday, April 22, 2013, in his home.

Patricia A. “Patti” Grimm, 46, of West Alexander, died at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2013, in Donnell House, Washington, after a courageous battle with a cancer-related illness since January.

She was born April 1, 1967, in Wheeling, W.Va., a daughter of James Austin and Roberta Jean Lilley Grimm of West Alexander. She had resided in the West Alexander area all of her life.

Miss Grimm was a 1986 graduate of McGuffey High School.

She was last employed as a saleswoman with Gabriel Brothers in Washington for more than 24 years.

Miss Grimm enjoyed bowling, watching movies, camping, board games, puzzles and country music.

She also enjoyed attending youth sports events with her children, making potholders as memory keepsakes for her family and friends and raising a fall garden with pumpkins and gourds.

Surviving, in addition to her parents, are two sons, Christopher J. and Dustin Grimm, both at home; a brother, James A., husband of Dana Grimm, and a sister, Shellie, wife of John Chess, both of West Alexander; three nieces, Annabelle Martin and Alisha and Allison Grimm; a nephew, Charles Martin; maternal grandmother, Joann Post Lilley of West Alexander; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Deceased are her maternal grandfather, Neltson Lilley, and paternal grandparents William A. and Myrtle Fitzgerald Grimm.

Friends will be received from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday in West Alexander Presbyterian Church, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 26, with the Rev. Keith Hornung officiating. Interment will follow in West Alexander Cemetery. Jean G. James, 89, of Washington, formerly of Churchill, died Saturday, April 6, 2013, in Strabane Woods, South Strabane Township.

She was born July 21, 1923, in Ebensburg, a daughter of the late D. Sherman and Mary Owens Griffith.

Mrs. James was a graduate of Ebensburg High School and received a master’s degree from Allegheny College, where she was a pre-med student.

On October 18, 1947, she married B. Franklin James, who died April 8, 2008.

Surviving are two daughters, Megin J. Harrington of Scenery Hill and Ann J. Jones of Spartansburg, S.C.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a nephew.

Deceased, in addition to her husband and parents, are a sister, Carolyn Corbin and son-in-law, Gordon Harrington.

Mildred M. “Millie” Marin, 75, of Bethel Park, formerly of Carnegie, died in her home Sunday, April 21, 2013.

She was born December 16, 1937, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late John and Susan Drost Marin.

Ms. Marin retired from Kane Hospital, Scott Township.

Surviving are a daughter, Denise Stickle David; a son, Timothy (Diane) Harvison; and a grandson, Sean Harvison.

She is one of 14 children and is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Jack P. Nedley, 61, of Charleroi, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2013.

A son of the late Wayne and Margaret Cleaver Nedley, he was born August 4, 1951, in Salem, N.J.

Mr. Nedley honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy, where he retired as a jet engine mechanic supervisor.

He was a member of West Brownsville American Legion Post 940, loved to watch his beloved Steelers play and enjoyed spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, surviving are his loving wife of 20 years, Denise S. Williams Nedley; two daughters, Diane Choate of Memphis, Tenn., and Amanda Kay Nedley of Pittsburgh; a son, Robert Nedley of Monessen; stepchildren Heidi Thrasher of Fort Pierce, Fla., Christopher Plumley of Belle Vernon and Eric Gonzales of Washington; 10 grandchildren with one on the way; sisters, Debra Bacon of Salem, N.J., and Lisa Nedley of Waynesburg; brothers, Frank Stevenson of Semora, N.C., James Nedley, of Ocala, Fla., Timothy Raytek of Perkasie and Christopher Dupree of Pennsylvania; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased are brother Tommy Raytek and sister Helen Ferrara.

John Rudolph Roberts, 81, of McDonald, Mt. Pleasant Township, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, April 21, 2013, in Molinaro Manor, Oakdale.

He was born April 30, 1931, in Francis Mine, a son of the late Frank Sr. and Christina Gecoma Roberts.

After attending Union High School in Burgettstown, where he played football, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving four years during the Korean conflict.

Mr. Roberts was the body shop foreman at P&G Chevrolet in Slovan, where he was known for working miracles on cars. He retired after 17 years from Troy Design and Manufacturing in Michigan.

He was a member of the Italian, Slovenian and Polish clubs in Burgettstown and Slovan Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mr. Roberts enjoyed gardening, bowling, big game hunting, riding and caring for his horses and spending time with his family.

Surviving are his children, Debora McCune of North Carolina and John Roberts and wife Karen of Bulger; six grandchildren, Chelsie and Jake Roberts and Matt, Jane, Lee and John McCune; three brothers, Art Roberts of Pittsburgh, Frank Roberts Jr. and wife Loretta of Burgettstown and William Roberts of Michigan; a sister, JoAnn Kucera of Weirton, W.Va.; a sister-in-law, Donna Roberts of Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, are his wives, Jane Pliska Roberts, who died in 1971, and Julia Bennett Roberts, who died in 2007; a great-grandson, Noah McCune-Cassella; a brother, Joseph Roberts; sisters, Helen Monasterio, Mary Panconi Blank and Lil Bernola.

Friends will be received from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Lee & Martin Funeral Home, 73 Highland Avenue, Burgettstown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 25, in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. George Moneck, pastor as celebrant. Inurnment with military honors will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery at a later date.

Margaret A. Sisko, 83, of McDonald, Cecil Township, died Sunday, April 21, 2013, in her daughter’s home.

She was born August 16, 1929, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Nephi and Gertrude Dolphin Heakin.

Mrs. Sisko was a homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are her daughters, Michelle L. (A.M. Mattaliano) D’Angelo of McDonald and Bobbi (Jim) Chitester of Brookville; grandchildren Dominique (Jamison) D’Angelo, Michael (Jessie) D’Angelo, Norma (Sonny) Lang, Andrea Ireland, Sarah Ireland, Dennis (Amy) Chitester, Jamie (Tara) Chitester, Autum Mattaliano and Jason Mattaliano; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Deceased are her husband, Norman A. Sisko (June 21, 1994); daughter Kathleen Sisko; sister Gertrude Janssens; and brother Thomas Heakin.
