Robert Holbert Sr.
Robert “Carroll” Holbert Sr., 78, of Mt. Morris, died at 3:55 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2013, in Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va., after a short battle with cancer.
He was born Wednesday, February 27, 1935, in Mt. Morris, a son of the late Cecil Holbert and Evelyn Snyder Holbert.
Mr. Holbert was a lifelong resident of Greene County. He was an active member of Taylortown United Methodist Church.
He was the owner/operator of Mt. Morris Tire Service Inc. and High Point Raceway.
Mr. Holbert’s true passions were gardening and operating heavy equipment (bulldozers). After his retirement, he and his wife, Barb, spent their winters in St. Augustine, Fla.
On May 7, 1955, he married Barbara Hendershot, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Tina Holbert of Mt. Morris and Marsha and husband Junior Strosnider of West Virginia; three sons, Robert and wife Leona Holbert Jr. of Mt. Morris, Michael and wife Melissa Holbert of Mt. Morris and Thomas Holbert of Bobtown; 10 grandchildren, Carole Ann Holbert, Ashley Swestyn, Becky Holbert, JR Strosnider, Justin Holbert, Nicole Strosnider, Ana Holbert, Jeremy Holbert, Alex Holbert and Zachary Holbert; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Hughes of Maidsville, W.Va.; a brother, Jack A. Holbert of Mt. Morris; and several nieces and nephews.
He leaves behind Jake, his African grey bird.
Deceased is a granddaughter, Ava Naomi Holbert.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, 324 Mt. Morris Road, P.O. Box 478, Mt. Morris, PA 15349. Additional viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of service, Tuesday, April 30, in Mt. Morris United Methodist Church, with Pastor Gale Cobb and the Rev.
