Edna Ruth Filer
Edna Ruth Filer, 88, formerly of Bethel Park and Waynesburg, died Sunday, April 28, 2013, in Evergreen Personal Care, Waynesburg.
She was born April 8, 1925, in her family home in Castile, a daughter of the late Harlan K. and Ruth Rasel Watson.
Mrs. Filer was a graduate of Jefferson High School.
On October 14, 1944, she married Robert Henry Filer, originally of Mather, who died December 21, 1997.
She retired as a liability claims adjuster for Kemper Insurance Co. in Pittsburgh, where she was known for her dedication and work ethic.
Mrs. Filer had resided in Bethel Park for many years before returning to Waynesburg.
She was a much-loved Christian woman who was a very involved member of Peters Creek Baptist Church in Library.
Mrs. Filer loved to travel. She had toured much of the United States, Germany, France and Austria. She also had traveled to Okinawa, Japan, Hong Kong and mainland China.
She loved to bowl and was renowned for her chocolate chip cookies and graham cracker-crust cream pies. She was known for her sense of style and the deep love she had for family.
Surviving are a daughter, Beverly Filer of Calbash, N.C.; a son, Brett Robert Filer of Uniontown; a daughter-in-law, Betty Filer of Uniontown; three grandchildren, Jason Bart, Brian Robert and Laura Ashley Filer; and loving extended family including sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two brothers, Harlan “Bud” Watson and Hiram “Hank” Watson, and a sister, Sarah “Libby” Orndoff.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Behm Funeral Homes Inc., 182 West High Street, Waynesburg, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 2, with the Rev. Greg Adkins of Peters Creek Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Morgan Township. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
