Raymond Charles Stephens

Raymond Charles Stephens, 85, of Burgettstown, Hanover Township, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013, in Weirton (W.Va.) Medical Center.

He was born November 3, 1927, in Coraopolis, a son of the late Charles and Birdie A. Cain Stephens.

Mr. Stephens was a coal miner, having worked for Harmon Creek Coal Co. starting in 1944 and then Starvaggi Industries, where he operated the Angeline, until retiring in 1989.

He was the last remaining member of his immediate family.

On June 4, 1947, in McDonald, he married Julia L. Melvin, who died in 1982.

Surviving are his sons, Larry Stephens of Burgettstown, where he resided at the time of his death, and Richard Stephens of Hookstown; his grandchildren, Randy (Billi Jo) Stephens and Michael Stephens; and his great-grandchildren, Garrett and Gretchen Stephens.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, are his brothers, Carl, Roy, James and Clarence Stephens, and his sisters, Elsie Roach, Grace Scott Baker and Mae Brockman Long.

Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Taucher Funeral Home, 23 Erie Mine Road, Burgettstown, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 3, with the Rev. Allison Bauer officiating. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Florence.
