Floyd Dale “Bud” Petrel, 79, of Colliers, W.Va., passed away peacefully Sunday, August 4, 2013, in Brightwood Center, Follansbee, W.Va.
He was born June 23, 1934, in Eldersville, a son of the late James Mark and Veda Dale Myers Petrel.
Also deceased are three brothers, James, Edward and Robert Petrel, and four sisters, June Lee, Betty Stefkovich, Juanita Ignac and Mary Petrel.
Mr. Petrel was a 1952 graduate of Burgettstown High School.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
After 36 years, he retired from Weirton Steel Corp., where he worked as a supervisor in labor relations.
Mr. Petrel was a member of Open Door Baptist Church.
He was an avid softball player, pitching into his 64th year. He was a car enthusiast having a love for antique cars, sports cars and a love for manicuring his lawn.
Surviving are his loving wife of 58 years, Nancy Lee Hunter Petrel, whom he married August 21, 1954; two children, David (Jill) Petrel of Columbus, Ohio, and Lisa (David) Wert of Pittsburgh; and five grandchildren, Lindsey and Joshua Petrel and Abby, Ava and Alek Wert.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Mullenbach Funeral Home, 669 Main Street, Follansbee, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 8, with the Rev. Larry Garrison officiating. Interment will follow in St. Johns Cemetery, Colliers. Full military honors will be conducted by Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.
