Avid archer had great love for the outdoors
Howard L. “Pappy” Jones, 86, of Coal Center, died Saturday, August 3, 2013, in his home, surrounded by family.
He was born February 13, 1927, in Somerset Township.
Mr. Jones was employed as a machinist for many years at Industrial Gasket and Shim in Meadow Lands, before retiring in 1991.
He possessed a great love for the outdoors and was a charter and longtime member of Washington County Buck Skinners Association, where he was affectionately referred to as “Hawkeye.”
Mr. Howard was an avid archer and long bowman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking.
On April 8, 1982, he married Rita M. Chase, who survives.
Also surviving are three stepdaughters, Debbie McGavitt and husband Rick of Charleroi, Linda Orndoff and Millie Shook and husband Aaron, both of Coal Center; three stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the last of his immediate family.
Deceased are his father, William L. Jones; mother May Goodman Jones; and stepbrother Thayer D. Holmes.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Greenlee Funeral Home, 619 Main Street, Bentleyville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 7. Interment will be in Greene County Memorial Park, Morgan Township.
