Martha Jane Morris Salsberry Funk

Retired caregiver was active church member

Martha Jane “Beckie” Morris Salsberry Funk, 88, passed away Thursday, August 8, 2013, in her home with family.

She was a daughter of Perry E. and Sarah Jane Gump Morris, born July 17, 1925, in Brave.

She attended Jackson Township Grade School and Center Township High School. After graduating from Mason-Frederick Beauty Culture in 1945, she continued as a teacher in cosmetology.

She worked as a waitress then as a housekeeper for Dr. and Mrs. Calvin Rush, First National Bank, Waynesburg Borough Police Station and numerous other families in Waynesburg. She moved to Port Charlotte in 1987 and worked as a caregiver until she retired in 1998.

She was a member of First Christian Church, Waynesburg, Friendship United Methodist Church, Punta Gordo, Fla., and the Sewing Club of Methodist Church, that made lap robes for the nursing home residents in the area.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Vicki L. (Frank Higgins) Funk of Waynesburg, Gary R. (Brenda) Funk of Vermillion, Ohio, Mark W. (Maryann) Funk of Amherst, Ohio, and Melody L. (Bobby) Deter of Waynesburg and Punta Gordo, Fla.; sister Jean Scott of Niles, Ohio; 9 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.

A committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 16, in Friendship United Methodist Church.

Memorial donations may be made in her memory to a church or hospice of one’s choice.
