Steve Davidovich

WWII vet, J&L Vesta 5 Mine retiree

Steve Davidovich, 91, formerly of Denbo, died Wednesday, August 14, 2013, in Baldock Manor, North Huntingdon.

Mr. Davidovich was born December 12, 1921, in Lynn, Fayette County, a son of the late Ted and Mildred Vukovich Davidovich.

He was a 1941 graduate of Centerville High School.

Mr. Davidovich was a U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II. He served with the eleventh mobile repair and reclamation squadron. While stationed in the European Theater of Operations, he served as an interpreter for Queen (Mother) Marie of Yugoslavia and her conversation with General Donald R. Goodrich, commanding general of the Eighth Army Air Force Service Command. For his services, he was awarded ribbons for the American Theater; European-African-Middle Eastern, Asiatic-Pacific Theaters of Operation; the Good Conduct Medal; and WWII Victory Medal.

Mr. Davidovich was employed as a precision machinest for J&L Vesta 5 Mine. He retired after 38 years of service and was a member of United Mine Workers Local 762. He also was a charter member of Denbo-Vesta 6 Volunteer Fire Department.

He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and especially enjoyed attending soccer games to watch his grandchildren.

On January 26, 1951, he married Emily Dorazio, who died August 25, 1999.

Surviving are two sons, Steve A. Davidovich (Ruthann) of Vestaburg and Ted E. Davidovich (Camille) of Gilbert, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, Kristin Wyant (Matthew) of Bradenville, Danielle Fawcett (Jesse) of North Huntingdon, Steven M. Davidovich of Pittsburgh, Tara, Ted E. and Tessa Davidovich, all of Gilbert, and Kyrie McConnell (Chad), also of Gilbert; six great-grandchildren, Joshua, Madison and Natalie Wyant, Evyn and Samuel Fawcett and Celena McConnell; a brother, Swetko Davidovich of Denbo; a sister, Ann Elliott of Stockdale; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, where a blessing service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 17, with Deacon Tom Raymond officiating. Interment will be in Taylor Cemetery, Brownsville. Full military honors will be accorded graveside by Hancock-McCune-Horne American Legion Post 705, Centerville.
