Anthony Raymond Kucic

Anthony Raymond Kucic, 94, of Burgettstown, died Wednesday, January 30, 2013, in Strabane Woods, South Strabane Township.

He was born November 14, 1918, in Burgettstown, a son of the late Marko Sr. and Katherine Simoncic Kucic.

After a lifelong residency in Burgettstown, Mr. Kucic moved to Strabane Woods Assisted Living.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army with the 94th Infantry in Europe. While in Germany, he was captured and remained a prisoner of war until the war ended. He was honorably discharged, a recipient of the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two bronze stars and the WWII Victory Medal.

Mr. Kucic retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel. He enjoyed getting together with other retirees for monthly breakfast meetings.

His lifelong hobby was raising and racing pigeons. He belonged to Chartiers Pigeon Club. He was also a member of Burgettstown Veterans of Foreign Wars, Slovenian Club, SNPJ Lodge, KSKJ Lodge, Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church and Burgettstown Senior Citizens Association.

He was married to his loving wife, Brancia Muskovich, October 27, 1941, in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, until she unexpectedly passed away May 20, 2009. They had been married for 68 years.

Surviving are two daughters, Antoinette Kowalewski and husband Stanley of Canonsburg and Frances Jean Kucic of San Carlos, Calif.; two sons, William J. Kucic of Ashland, Ohio, and Joseph R. Kucic and wife Diane of North Aurora, Ill.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Frances Reed of Winter Haven, Fla.

Deceased, in addition to his parents and wife, are three brothers, Marko Jr., John and Joseph Kucic.

Friends will be received from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, February 2, in Lee & Martin Funeral Home, 73 Highland Avenue, Burgettstown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Burgettstown. Interment with full military honors accorded by the U.S. Army and Slovan VFW Honor Guard will follow in Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Hickory. If so desired, memorial donations may be made in his memory to Burgettstown Senior Citizens, 2 Senior Way, Burgettstown, PA 15021.
