Nick J. Sorgiovanni

Nick J. Sorgiovanni, 77, of Crucible, died Friday, February 15, 2013, in Westmoreland Manor, Greensburg.

He was born May 14, 1935, in Crucible, a son of the late Cosmo “Jack Sargent” and Dorinda Salvati Sorgiovanni.

Mr. Sorgiovanni was a graduate of Cumberland Township High School.

He had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Sorgiovanni was a lifelong farmer and was well known for his potatoes, corn, and homemade wine. He was affectionately known as the “Potato Man.”

He was a retired coal miner from Isabella Mine and a member of the United Mine Workers of America.

Mr. Sorgiovanni was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church of Crucible.

Surviving are a son, Joe Sorgiovanni of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Rose Frawley (Brian) of Mechanicsburg; three grandchildren, Stephanie, Anthony and Josef; five siblings, Mary Hopton of Carmichaels, Anna Kushon of Carmichaels, Rosa Buday of Crucible, James Sorgiovanni of Mantua, Ohio, and Gena Everly of Carmichaels.

Deceased is a son, Cosmo Sorgiovanni.

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Behm Funeral Home, 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, where a blessing service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 20, with the Rev. John M. Bauer officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Crucible. Graveside military rites will be accorded by the U.S. Army.
