Belle A. Brutout

Belle A. Brutout, 99, of Charleroi, died Tuesday, January 1, 2013, in Strabane Woods, Washington.

She was born December 29, 1913, in North Charleroi, a daughter of the late Joseph and Garnett White Alfree.

Mrs. Brutout was a lifelong member of Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. She was a cradle member of First Christian Church in Charleroi, where she taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school for many years. She also was a member of the Amicus Class. She later became an active member of United Christian Church in California, where she was instrumental in leading the Women’s Fellowship Group and promoting the Blessing Box. She also held various offices for the regional church. She also maintained memberships in Beta Y Gradale, Good Neighbor Club, Lutheran Women Sewing Group and Charleroi Historical Society.

In her later years, she enjoyed helping at the local food bank. In the last 17 years, she enjoyed her life at the Crest Avenue Apartment Building. She was instrumental in planning parties and dinners for every occasion. She and her friends enjoyed many card games, puzzle building and hours of decorating. Other interests included camping at Hillegas Campgrounds, collecting four-leaf clovers, collecting angels and her vast collection of bells.

Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Crow and husband Charles of Leesburg, Fla., and Diana Eckert and husband Donald of Lancaster; two sons, Victor “Chip” Brutout and wife Mary Beth of West Grove and Samuel Brutout and wife Anafred of Leesburg; a sister, Harriet Jane Downer; nine grandchildren, Carrie Kennedy, Tim Crow, Lisa Buday, Lynn Crow, Rebecca Borland, Marc Eckert, Jim Long, Scott Brutout and Jeff Brutout; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Norman C. Hunt; and a sister-in-law, Mildred Allfree.

Deceased, in addition to her parents, are her husband, Victor Brutout; a daughter, Judith Hunt; two grandsons, Farley Hunt and Dennis Odgers; two sisters, Anne Lauder and Mary Wood; and a brother, Joseph Allfree.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Schrock-Hogan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 226 Fallowfield Avenue, Charleroi. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 4, in United Christian Church, 499 West Malden Drive, California. Relatives and friends attending the funeral services are being asked to go directly to the church. Interment will follow in Howe Cemetery.
