Johanna E. Pavcic
Johanna E. Pavcic, 88, of Canonsburg, died unexpectedly Tuesday, January 1, 2013, in St. Clair Memorial Hospital, Mt. Lebanon.
She was born August 24, 1924, in Strabane, a daughter of the late John T. and Johanna Podboy Verhovnik.
Mrs. Pavcic lived her entire life in Strabane and Canonsburg, where she was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church and was a lifetime member of the Slovenian National Benefit Society Lodge 138 of Strabane.
She was a homemaker, and prior to her marriage, she had been employed at the former Continental Can Co.
Mrs. Pavcic had a quick wit and warm smile for everyone and always thought of others before herself. She was proud of her Slovenian heritage and exchanged letters with relatives in Slovenia for many decades. She enjoyed listening to the Slovenian radio hour and loved tapping her toes to polka music her entire life.
On July 5, 1952, she married William J. Pavcic, who died September 23, 1990.
Surviving are three daughters, Janet (Michael) Zeffiro of Bethel Park, Judy Pavcic of Strabane and Joyce (George) Elish of Canonsburg; two sons, John W. (Pamela) Pavcic and James (Sandra) Pavcic, both of Canonsburg; a brother, John W. Verhovnik of Upper Saddle River, N.J.; four grandchildren, Thomas (Jennifer) and Andrew (Jessica) Zeffiro and Jamie and Christopher Pavcic; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Salandra Funeral Service Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, 724-745-8120, where a blessing service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, January 4, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick Church, Canonsburg. Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg. Mrs. Pavcic’s family suggests memorial contributions be made to Slovenian Radio Hour or St. Patrick Church.
