Joseph Patrick
Joseph Patrick, 94, of Washington, formerly of Fredericktown, passed away Friday, January 4, 2013, in Washington Hospital.
He was born November 20, 1918, in Vestaburg, a son of the late Steve and Anna Patrick.
Mr. Patrick was a World War II Army veteran who was proud to have been a member of the armed forces. He served overseas in Northern France, the Rhineland, and in Normandy, where he took part in the Normandy invasion. He received the Purple Heart.
From 1936 to 1939, he was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps.
Until his retirement, Mr. Patrick worked for PennDOT.
He was Presbyterian and a member of Millsboro Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mary, whom he married July 12, 1952. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in July.
Mr. Patrick was a member of American Legion Hanson-Cole Post 391 of Fredericktown; Carmichaels Veterans of Foreign Wars; Hungarian Reformed Federation of America; and the Ivy Leaves.
He was a quiet man who enjoyed coin and stamp collecting, and spending time with his grandson and family.
In addition to his wife, surviving are three daughters, Patty Netzel (Keith) of Clinton Township, Mich., Debra Jean Noska of Shelby Township, Mich., and Mary Jo Patrick-Hatfield (Chris) of Washington; grandchildren Tiffany Lee Grimm (Randy), Christina Marie Caldwell, Michelle Lynn Caldwell and Phillip Nicholas Hatfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are brothers George, Steve and Jim Patrick and sisters Erma Popovich and Betty Ambrose.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and 10 until 11 a.m., the hour of service, Tuesday, January 8, in Frank Burkus Funeral Home, 26 Mill Street, Millsboro. Interment will follow in Fredericktown Cemetery. Hanson-Cole Post 391 will perform military rites.
