George Edward Howard
George Edward “Jed” Howard, 56, of Tomball, Texas, formerly of Waynesburg, died Saturday, January 12, 2013, at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, following a long and couragious battle with cancer.
He was born Thursday, April 5, 1956, in Waynesburg, a son of Larry (Ella) Mitchell of Rogersville and the late Sue Howard Morris.
Mr. Howard was a member of Living Word Church of the Nazarene in Houston and a former member of First Church of the Nazarene in Waynesburg, where he was a former Sunday School teacher.
He was a member of the Waynesburg Volunteeer Fire Company, where he retired as an assistant chief.
When his health permitted, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle.
Mr. Howard had worked as the borough manager of Waynesburg for six years.
In addition to his father and stepmother, surviving are his wife, Judy K. Hennen Howard, whom he married February 16, 1996; stepdaughter Kelci Shae Evans of The Woodlands, Texas; a brother, Doug Mitchell of Morgantown, W.Va.; four sisters, Pam Shogren, Lida Orbash and Kathy Cooke, all of Waynesburg, and Jan Britton of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased is a sister, Timmie Ely.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, 197 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg. There will be additional visitation from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of service, Thursday, January 17, in First Church of the Nazarene, 115 Deerfield Lane, Waynesburg, with the Rev. John Poling officiating. Burial will be in Oakmont Cemetery, Waynesburg. The Waynesburg Volunteer Fire Company will hold memorial services at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
