William W. Dickinson

Life member of McDonald VFD

William W. Dickinson, 73, of McDonald, died Tuesday, January 15, 2013, in Kindred, Oakdale.

He was born February 21, 1939, in McDonald, a son of the late Raymond H. and Marcella Scopel Dickinson.

Mr. Dickinson worked as a meter reader for Allegheny Power/West Penn, until his retirement in 2000.

He was a life member and former chief of McDonald Volunteer Fire Department and a member of Chartiers Lodge 297 F&AM Canonsburg.

Mr. Dickinson enjoyed camping, fishing and time spent with his children, grandchildren and family.

On May 3, 1958, he married Marilee Shumaker, who died August 24, 2012.

Surviving are three daughters, Barbara (Randy) Scott of Sturgeon, Diana (Patricia Quarry) Dickinson of Turtle Creek and Susanne (Craig Beardsley) Yochum of McDonald; a son, William W. (Jodi) Dickinson Jr. of Sturgeon; nine grandchildren, Kristen Scott, Lauren (Mike) Kramer, Nicole and Cody Dickinson and Jacob, Tiffany, Amanda, Lyndsie and Matthew Yochum; and three great-grandchildren, Billy Seibel, Ashley Yochum and Michael Ryan Kramer.

Services were private and under the direction of Nation Funeral Home Inc., McDonald. Christina A. Kasmaric, 48, of Bentleyville, died Wednesday, January 16, 2013, in her home.

Edwin A. Kelley

Loving father enjoyed the outdoors

Edwin A. Kelley, 78, a resident of White Rock, N.M., passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2013, which would have been his 25th anniversary with his beloved wife, Billie.

He was born February 7, 1934, in Washington, a son of the late John B. Sr. and Ruth A. Kelley.

Mr. Kelley was a 1951 graduate of Trinity High School.

He was a machinist all his life as many of the Kelley families were, and was known for being “one of the best.” He moved to Los Alamos, N.M., in 1967 to work for LASL, in the main shops. From 1976 until 1981, he operated and owned Kelley’s Hilltop Gulf station in Los Alamos. After that, he worked on various other projects within LANL and the community as a master machinist.

Mr. Kelley loved going to Lake Erie with his family in the summers, playing pool with his buddies, camping, boating, hunting, fishing, almost anything outdoors, racing motorcycles and going to hill climbs. He enjoyed working on and reselling cars, and, oh, how he loved to dance and many times won those great dance contests, playing a very competitive game of horseshoes and always joked about having a prayer with the Lord (Calvert). Mr. Kelley loved his animals and was especially fond of his dog, Buttons, who passed away several years ago, and his wife’s dog Mitzi, who is a very lonely little dog now.

He was a loving father, stepfather, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and son and loved all the children, especially all the babies.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, are a sister, Margaret E. Humphreys; his first wife, Shirley A. Kelley; and his second wife, Billie F. Kelley.

He is survived by seven children, Richard E. Kelley (Shari) of Los Alamos, Cynthia (Cindy) J. Kelley of Los Alamos, Edwin A. Kelley Jr. (Brenda) of Los Alamos, Janet S. Caldwell (Jack) of Lamy, N.M., Mary Lou Holmes (David) of Los Alamos, Debbie L. Evans (Ed) of San Antonio, Texas, and John P. Kelley of Los Alamos; seven stepchildren, Shirley A. Jarrell (Hal) of Houston, Texas, Debbie F. Wright of Albuquerque, N.M., Carolyn J. Blossom of Albuquerque, Billie R. Clark (Chris) of Tijeras, N.M., Barbara L. Sanchez (David) of Española, N.M., Orbry L. Wright (Kathleen) of Los Alamos and Katherine L. Brophy (Dan) of Española; a brother, John B. Kelley (Sandra) of Beaver; and a sister, Joan R. Reese of Washington.

Mr. Kelley was blessed with 28 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and numerous other loving relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, January 20, in Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home and Crematory, Española, N.M. Rosa D. Lesako

Member of St. Hugh Church

Rosa D. Lesako, her family’s English mum and Nana, of Carmichaels, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2013, in Evergreen Personal Care Home, Waynesburg.

She was born January 23, 1918, in London, England, a daughter of the late Harry and Rose Bone Heasman.

As a teenager, she trained as a garment cutter and seamstress and went to work in London’s West End.

Mrs. Lesako was a survivor of the Blitz and served her country in the British Army Territorial Service.

During the war, she met a young U.S. soldier, Paul Lesako, at a dance, and they were married in 1946. In 1960, they scraped enough money together to buy a funeral home in Carmichaels, where she worked tirelessly until he died in 1985.

She was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Hugh Church in Carmichaels and the Altar Rosary Society.

Mrs. Lesako belonged to the Carmichaels Grange, Women’s Civic Club and Warrior Trail.

Surviving are four children, Paul M. Lesako and wife Rachel, Joan Clites and husband John, David Lesako and wife Miriam Rubin and Susan Martin and husband Kevin; four grandchildren, Diana Clapper and husband Troy, Adam Martin and wife Sheena, Gina Lesako and fiancé Steve Volsko and Paul (P.J.) Martin; three great-grandchildren, Codi and Nathan Clapper and Kennedy Rose Martin; a sister-in-law, Mary Ondo; brothers-in-law Anthony Jaswa and Andy Belvis; and many nieces and nephews.

Also surviving are her family in England, a sister, Joan Gladman, and a brother, Harold Heasman and wife Joan.

She will be remembered as a loving mother and caring woman who comforted families during their time of loss and grief. She did live by the motto “stay calm and carry on” and have a cup of tea.

Friends will be received in her home from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday in Paul M. Lesako Funeral Home Inc., 204 Dowlin Avenue, Carmichaels, PA 15320, 724-966-5100, where a prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, January 19, followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Hugh Church, Carmichaels, with the Rev. Frederick R. Owens

WWII veteran was retired professor

Frederick R. Owens of Strongsville, Ohio, formerly of Waynesburg, died peacefully Thursday, January 17, 2013, after an extended illness.

He was born October 8, 1924, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Frederick R. Sr. and Margaret Richards Owens.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. He received the World War II Victory Medal, American Theater Medal and Asiatic Pacific Medal with one star.

Mr. Owens was a 1950 graduate of Waynesburg College, where he earned a degree in biology.

He began his teaching career as a biology professor at Waynesburg College in 1953 and retired in 1992. In 1990, he was presented the Golden Key Award from Waynesburg College. He was a member of the American Association of University Professors.

Mr. Owens was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Waynesburg, where he was an elder, deacon and Sunday school teacher.

He was a past member of Waynesburg Rotary Club and past president of Greene County Chapter for Retarded Children and served on the board of directors for many organizations including Greene Valley Farms.

On November 22, 1950, he married Joan W. Owens, who passed away February 1, 2005.

Surviving are a son, Richard W. Owens Sr. (Ellen) of Waynesburg; a daughter, Patti Owens Gimper (Thomas) of Strongsville, Ohio; two grandchildren, Richard W. Owens Jr. and Heather St. Clair; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Peggy Best (Bill) of Alabama.

Deceased are infant twin children.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Behm Funeral Homes Inc., 182 West High Street, Waynesburg, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 21, with Pastor Austin Shaw and Pastor Bill Sukolsky officiating. Joan C. Raymont

Member of First Baptist Church

Joan C. Raymont, 82, of Waynesburg, went to be with her Lord Wednesday, January 16, 2013.

She was born July 14, 1930, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late George T. and Catherine Koontz.

Mrs. Raymont was married to the late Russell W. Raymont. Together, they owned and operated Norge Village Laundry in Waynesburg. After his death, she continued operating the business until Thursday, January 10, 2013.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Waynesburg for more than 50 years.

Surviving are three loving children, Russell W. Raymont Jr. of Indiana and Susan Gregorich (Jim) and Richard A. Raymont (Linda), all of Waynesburg; five grandchildren, Jason Gregorich, Jennifer Gregorich, Bianca Simpson (Wesley), Tera Bland and Keith Gregorich; two great-grandchildren, Jenson Gregorich and Brysen Simpson; several nieces and nephews; and special added family members, Billy, Jenna, Paige and Violet Virgili, Bryan, Cathy, Madison and Mason Loughner and Zach Chapman.

Deceased, in addition to her parents, are a sister, Annette Moslander, and a brother, George Koontz Jr.

George Razum

Beth-Center teacher was cattle farmer, WWII vet

George Razum, 85, formerly of Fallowfield Township, died Wednesday, January 16, 2013, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg.

He was born May 27, 1927, in Marianna, a son of Joseph A. and Katherine Yurkovich Razum.

Mr. Razum was a member of Ave Maria Parish, Bentleyville.

He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. A graduate of Charleroi High School and California State Teacher’s College, Mr. Razum retired from Bethlehem-Center School District, where he was a teacher for many years. He also was a farmer, having raised beef cattle.

Mr. Razum was a member of Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge 354, Cokeburg.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Troutman Razum; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Pauline and Gilfert Mihalich of Smithton, Lillian Taylor of Monessen and Katherine and Ronald Zukauckas of Fallowfield Township; and two nieces and three nephews, Leonard Mihalich of Van Voorhis, Gail Lever of Princeton, Mass., Gil Mihalich of Bentelyville, Daniel Razum of Thailand and Cheryl Castillo of Dallas, Texas.

Deceased is a brother, Ernest D. Razum, who died October 31, 2008.

The staff in Walnut Ridge Memory Care took excellent care of Mr. Razum.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Leonard M. Pavlic Funeral Homes Inc., 405 Main Street, Bentleyville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 19, in Ave Maria Parish, Bentleyville, with the Rev. Edward L. Yuhas, pastor, as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Carroll Township. The family suggests memorials be made to one’s local humane society.

Nancy J. Stewart

Member of McDonald Presbyterian Church

Nancy J. Stewart, 73, of McDonald, died Thursday, January 17, 2013, in her home.

She was born September 3, 1939, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late George H. and Henrietta A. Ensslin Davison.

Mrs. Stewart was a 1957 graduate of Bethel Park High School.

She was a homemaker and a member of McDonald Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Stewart was an animal lover, and when she was younger enjoyed riding horses and Western dress. Her beloved cat was always at her side.

On November 25, 1965, she married Lawrence R. Stewart, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Robert G. (Karen) Stewart and Wayne H. (Donna) Stewart, both of McDonald; a stepson, Lawrence R. (Cindy) Stewart Jr. of Mt. Jewett; four grandchildren, Christopher, Callie, Cody and Nicole Stewart; and two stepgrandchildren, Jonathan and James Stewart.

Deceased is a sister, Ruth E. Davison.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday in Nation Funeral Home Inc., 220 East Lincoln Avenue, McDonald, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 22.
