Edith Mary Jackson
Edith Mary Jackson, 89, of South Strabane Township, formerly of Green Tree, died early Monday, January 21, 2013, in the Washington Hospital emergency department. She had been in declining health for some time.
She was born April 3, 1923, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of Morgan and Ellen Critchley Davies.
Mrs. Jackson was a graduate of Turtle Creek High School.
In earlier times, she had worked for the Cokesbury Book Store and Kaufmann’s Tick-Tock Restaurant.
She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and reading.
Mrs. Jackson was a member of First United Methodist Church of Washington. She was formerly a member of Amaranth and Eastern Star until her health started failing.
On January 8, 1942, she was married to Leonard G. Jackson, who died January 21, 2007.
Surviving are two daughters, Cheryl (Tommy) Aloia of Monongahela and Ellen J. Jackson of Charlotte, N.C.; two grandchildren, Todd L. (Tammy) Aloia of Washington and Terri L. Aloia of Monongahela; one beloved great-grandson, Jordan P. Aloia of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the last of her immediate family.
Deceased are four sisters, Janet Davies, Susanna Schaefer, Ruth Root and Irene Davies, and two brothers, Morgan and Albert Davies.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Hummell & Jones Funeral Home Inc., 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, Thomas W. Hummell, supervisor, Douglas M. Jones, director, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 24, with the Rev. Keith Simmons officiating. Private interment will follow in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery.
