Alice E. Mitchell
Alice E. “Libby” Mitchell, 81, of Canonsburg, died Tuesday, January 29, 2013, in Country Meadows of South Hills.
She was born February 20, 1931, in Washington, a daughter of Wray and Alice Reisher Lyle.
Mrs. Mitchell attended Washington High School.
Following high school, she worked for G.C. Murphy’s in Washington, Chartiers Cleaners in Houston and J.C. Penney’s in Bridgeville.
She was a member of Buffalo Grange.
Mrs. Mitchell was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan, enjoyed word searches and game shows and loved playing Skip-Bo and Uno with her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. Her witty and spunky personality endeared her to many. She will be forever missed.
On October 7, 1950, she married Robert Mitchell, who died March 3, 2012.
Surviving are a daughter, Janice Paterra and husband Anthony of Bridgeville; five grandchildren, Anthony Paterra, David Paterra (Nicole), Laura Barletta (Matt), Michael Mitchell (Christian) and Matthew Mitchell (Marci); four great-grandchildren, Angeline, Maddison, Matthew Jr. and Gabriella Mitchell; a brother, John Lyle (Lois) of Washington; three sisters, Stella Walker (David), Esther Gump and Doris Iseman, all of Washington; a daughter-in-law, Michelle Mitchell of Crafton; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a son, Robert Mitchell Jr.; a grandson, Robert Mitchell, who died in infancy; two brothers, Wray and Merle Lyle; and a sister, Florence Tush.
Friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 1, with the Rev. Gary Gibson officiating.
