Paul W. Gipe Jr.
Paul W. Gipe Jr., 85, of Hershey, passed away Saturday, January 26, 2013, in M.S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey.
He was born in Hershey August 1, 1927, a son of the late Paul W. Sr. and Sarah J. Ludwick Gipe.
Mr. Gipe retired as a linotype operator for The Patriot News, Harrisburg, and as a courier for Quest Diagnostics. He also was a horse owner and operated RPM Stables in Grantville, racing at Penn National Race Track, Grantville, and Charlestown Race.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post 386, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3502 and Italian Lodge, all of Hershey, and the Horsemen’s Benevolent Association, Grantville.
Mr. Gipe loved coaching children in baseball, enjoyed playing golf and was a lifelong fan of the Philadelphia Phillies, Flyers and Eagles.
Surviving are two daughters, Cheryl A. Konashefski, wife of Skip, and Cindy K. Gipe, both of Hershey; three sons, Terry W. Gipe, husband of Susan, of Boston, Mass., Randy T. Gipe, husband of Michelle Hodgens-Gipe, of Lower Paxton Township, and Dennis E. Gipe, husband of Nicole, of Hershey; three brothers, Charles J. Gipe, husband of Gloria, of Hobe Sound, Fla., John H. Gipe, husband of Joyce, of Lebanon, and Robert D. Gipe of Hershey; a sister, Doris D. Harmony, widow of John Campbelltown; seven grandchildren, Chrystal Wright, Michael Crum, Marilyn Courchaine, Mark Gipe, Jennifer Gipe, Nicole Skee and Kaylee Gipe; five great-grandchildren, Nichole Clark, Lucas Courchaine, Austin Courchaine, Kayla Courchaine and Taylor Webb; and a great-great-grandson, Benjamin Dejean.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jane Gipe, and a great-granddaughter, Ashley Wright.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, February 4, in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover Township. Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, is handling the arrangements.
