Betty J. Bigelow, 83, of Bruceton Mills, W.Va., died Monday, July 1, 2013, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
She was born July 16, 1929, in Washington, a daughter of the late Raymond and Sadie Lanier Marquis.
Mrs. Bigelow graduated from Hickory High School in 1947 and Washington Hospital School of Nursing in 1950. She served as a registered nurse in the Air Force Nurse Corps from 1951 to 1953, in Pensacola, Fla.; in Keene Valley Hospital, Keene Valley, N.Y., for 14 years; and in Preston Memorial Hospital in Kingwood, W.Va., for 17 years, before retiring in 1991.
Surviving are her husband, Merrill J. Bigelow; two daughters, Pamela Gluvna and husband Ed of Greensboro and Tracey Leef of Frederick, Md.; two grandchildren, Nicholas Gluvna and wife Donne of Longmont, Colo., and Megan Leef of Frederick; four great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Shirley Marquis; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Carl and Pat Bigelow; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, deceased is a brother, Charles “Bud” Marquis, in 1998.
In keeping with Mrs. Bigelow’s wishes, following cremation, a private service and burial will take place in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens, Morgantown. Carl R.
