Steve J. Yucha

Retired coal miner served during WWII

Steve J. “Cateye” “Booze” Yucha, 85, of Spraggs, formerly of Mt. Morris, died at 11:20 p.m. Saturday, July 6, 2013, in his home.

He was born Monday, December 26, 1927, in Morgantown, W.Va., a son of the late Paul Yucha and Kathryn Krcha Yucha.

Mr. Yucha was Catholic.

He was a veteran, having served during World War II with the U.S. Army.

Mr. Yucha was a member of Mt. Morris Sportsmen’s Club and United Mine Workers Association Local 2122.

When his health permitted, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. Years ago, he enjoyed golf.

He worked for 44 3/4 years as a coal miner, retiring from Pursglove 15 coal mine in 1989.

On July 3, 1952, he married Ruth Logan, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Cathy (John) Steve of Waynesburg and Mary (Dennis) Greathouse of Richmond, Va.; two sons, Paul Yucha, at home, and John (Trina) Yucha of Morgantown; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the last of his immediate family.

Deceased are a son, Thomas J. Yucha, and two sisters, Helen Duranti and Mary “Meck” Fumich.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, 324 Mt. Morris Road, P.O. Box 478, Mt. Morris, PA 15349, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 11, with the Rev. Raymond Morris officiating. Burial will be in Fairview-Kiger Cemetery, Whiteley Township. Graveside military honors will be accorded by James Farrell American Legion 330 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4793, both of Waynesburg, and representatives of the U.S. Army.
