Greene Co. homemaker enjoyed sports, quilting

Rosa M. Phillips, 96, of Carmichaels, died Tuesday, July 23, 2013, in Haney’s Personal Care Center, Rices Landing.

She was born April 11, 1917, in Whiteley Township, Greene County, a daughter of the late John L. and Hazel Grace Zimmerman Fox.

Mrs. Phillips was a homemaker who lived in Khedive since 1933, where she loved her flowers and quilting.

She enjoyed sports and watching her grandchildren play them, and following the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Mrs. Phillips was a member of the former Muddy Creek Presbyterian Church.

On March 31, 1933, she married Robert J. Phillips, who died June 3, 1987.

Surviving are five children, Mrs. Hazel Garrison of Valley Grove, W.Va., Richard Phillips and wife Penny of Carmichaels, Robert G. Phillips of Carmichaels, Charlotte Makel and husband Duane of Rices Landing and Bertha (Pearl) Ludrosky of Rices Landing; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 31 great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Matilda Carter of Carmichaels, Betty Workman of Khedive, Thelma Fletcher of Gaithersburg, Md., and Phyllis Thomas of Waynesburg; and three brothers, John L. Fox Jr. of Khedive, Donald Fox of Lakewood, Ohio, and Ronald Fox of Strongsville, Ohio.

Deceased are a granddaughter, Debra Makel; two grandsons, Glenn Garrison and Robert G. Phillips Jr.; a sister, Dorothy V. Rush Clark; and three brothers, Marvey Fox, James Fox, and Allen Fox.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Behm Funeral Home Inc., 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 26, with the Rev. Donald P. Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Muddy Creek Cemetery, Khedive.
