Truck driver enjoyed all Pittsburgh sports

John William Ely, 60, of Washington, died Thursday, July 25, 2013, in Donnell House, Washington.

He was born May 1, 1953, in Washington, a son of James Walter and Helen Lawrence Ely.

Mr. Ely was a graduate of McGuffey High School and attended Bowling Green University.

He was an owner-operator, having once worked for Sorice Trucking and later for Estees and Regional Trucking. He had currently been working for Veltri Trucking.

Mr. Ely loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed all Pittsburgh sports and NASCAR.

Surviving are two sons, Jace (Meghan) Ely of Pittsburgh and Drew Ely of Washington; daughter Amber (Chad) Bentz of Wheeling, W.Va.; sister Doris (Charles) Fairchild of Taylorstown; four grandchildren, Isaac, Elsie, Bridget and Jude; his companion, Donna Pettit; and his former wife, Debbie Ely.

Deceased is a brother, Lawrence W. Ely.

Private services were held followed by burial in Washington Cemetery.

Arrangements were entrusted to William G. Neal Funeral Home Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington.
