Retired deputy public defender was sports fan
Thomas H. Cooke III, 65, of North Charleroi, died Sunday, July 28, 2013, in the emergency department at Mon Valley Hospital.
He was born November 23, 1947, in Darmstadt, Germany, a son of the late Thomas H. Jr. and Ann Joyce Little Cooke.
Mr. Cooke was a 1966 graduate of Kecoughtan High School in Hampton, Va. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1970 from California University of Pennsylvania. He received his Juris Doctorate degree in 1976 from the Duquesne University School of Law.
He recently retired as a deputy public defender of Washington County.
Mr. Cooke was a member of First Christian Church of Charleroi and Tri County Citizens Advisory Council for OVR. He was the founding solicitor for Club Serenity Inc. and a former member of the board of directors for Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers.
He was a sports fan, history buff and enjoyed reading. He devoted a lot of time to his family and cooking. Mr. Cooke was greatly loved by his family, friends and co-workers.
On July 21, 1989, he married Mary Ann Huber, who survives.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three children, David Cooke of Pittsburgh, Faith Cooke of North Charleroi and Janelle Cooke of South Park; stepson Jason Hughes (Marcy) of Moon Township; two sisters, Ann Jean Kotlansky of Uniontown and Kay Gambino of Monongahela; two sisters-in-law, Jodele Vandernitte (Joseph) and Cheryl Blair, both of Fallowfield Township; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, is an infant son, Thomas Edward Cooke.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 10 to 11 a.m., the hour of services, Thursday, August 1, in Greenlee Funeral Home, 619 Main Street, Bentleyville. Interment will be private. Guest book and personal condolences may be accessed at www.GreenleeFuneralHome.com.
