Arthur D. “Art” Moore Sr., 69, of Clarksville, Sandy Plains, died Sunday, June 2, 2013, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born February 29, 1944, in Waynesburg, a son of the late Samuel and Clara Piper Moore.
Mr. Moore was a 1963 graduate of Waynesburg High School.
He retired from Wetterau in Belle Vernon, formerly Fox Grocery, after 29 years of service as a truck driver. For many years, he owned and operated Moore’s Garage in Sandy Plains.
Mr. Moore was a member of Teamsters Local 872, National Rifle Association and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge in Belle Vernon. For more than 10 years, he coached baseball in the Coal Valley Little League.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, playing golf and spending time at his camp, named the Eleven Point Camp, located in Emporium, Cameron County. He also enjoyed all things pertaining to cars, including repairing, building and drag racing. Spending time with his grandchildren, especially riding quads with them around his home, brought him special enjoyment.
Mr. Moore will be remembered for his sense of humor and the great practical jokes he always played on family and friends.
On August 6, 1965, he married Barbara Szopo, who survives.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three children, Arthur D. “Art” Moore Jr. of Clarksville, Lori Moore of Washington and Tim Moore (Cathy) of Waynesburg; six grandchildren, Samuel A., David T., Jordan (J.T.), Brooke, Devin and Izabel (Izzy) Moore; two brothers, Louis Moore (Betty) of Beallsville and Samuel Moore (Joyce) of Hubbard, Ohio.; three sisters, Frances George of Waynesburg, Glenda Davis (Richard) of Fredericktown and Sharon Cowell (Keith) of Waynesburg; a sister-in-law, Wilma Moore of Hubbard; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are a brother, Robert Moore; a sister, Pauline Wilson; and a daughter-in-law, Jennifer A. “Jen” Moore.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., the time of service, Wednesday, June 5, in John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, with the Rev. Joe Weaver officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to JEN Fund, Joyful Exciting New Day, a local charity that aides cancer patients, 42 Blackdog Hollow Road, Clarksville, PA 15322.
