Elizabeth “Becky” Anna White Banyay, 91, of Zelienople, formerly of Evans City, died Sunday, June 2, 2013.

Born October 31, 1921, in Hickory, Washington County, she was a daughter of the late Alvin D. Sr. and Laura Cooper White.

She was the beloved wife of the late Charles J. Banyay, whom she married June 2, 1944; mother of the Rev. Beverly Banyay of Blairsville, Patricia (Richard) Hanf of Marietta, Ohio, Nancy (Gary) Stoehr of Williamsville, N.Y., Wendell (Linda) Banyay of Suffolk, Va., Dan (Joan) Banyay of Cranberry Township and Reid (Emiko) Banyay of Bensalem; sister of Albert White of New Port Richey, Fla., Mary Crozier of Lancaster, John White of Hickory, Marjorie Smith-Peterson of Janesville, Wis., Margaret McCance of Lancaster, Richard White of Hickory and Willard White of Washington; grandmother of Susan Hanf of Chicago, Ill., Rick Hanf of Houston, Katie Stoehr (Ben Johnson) of Brooklyn, N.Y., Laura (John) Kammerer of Columbia, S.C., Christopher (Christine) Jordan of Blacksburg, Va., Elyse (Scott) Vaughan of Chesapeake, Va., Cory (Emma) Jordan of Charlottesville, Va., Greg (Jennifer) Banyay of Ellwood City and Laurie Banyay of Cranberry Township; great-grandmother of Mary, Robbie and Drew Jordan, Samantha and Charlotte Vaughan, Henry Johnson, Owen and Julian Kammerer, Adelaide Jordan and Garrett and Grady Banyay; and aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are brothers Alvin D. White Jr. of Albuquerque, N.M., and Robert White Sr. of Hickory; and a great-grandchild, Ellis Jordan of Charlottesville, Va.

Mrs. Banyay graduated from Pennsylvania State University and retired in 1982 from the Seneca Valley School District, where she taught English for many years.

She was a proud member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Evans City, Evans City Historical Society, Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees and American Legion Auxiliary.

Mrs. Banyay was an avid reader who enjoyed crossword puzzles, nature, music, playing cards and spending time with family.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Boylan Funeral Home, 324 East Grandview Avenue, Zelienople. Additional visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 7, in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 202 Van Buren Street, Evans City, preceding the 11 a.m. funeral service in the church. Burial to follow in Evans City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lutheran Senior Life Foundation (Passavant Retirement Community benevolent care), 401 Sout Main Street, Zelienople, PA 16063, or Evans City Historical Society, 204 South Jackson Street, Evans City, PA 16033.
