Retired Williams C.C. greenskeeper enjoyed family

Hendry Alvarez, 85, of Langeloth, died Friday, June 7, 2013, in Kindred Hospital, Oakdale.

He was born July 31, 1927, in Carbon, a son of the late Fernando and Delfina Fernandez Alvarez.

Prior to retirement, Mr. Alvarez was employed as the greenskeeper for Williams Country Club in Weirton, W.Va.

He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Burgettstown.

Mr. Alvarez enjoyed gardening, spending time with family and the company of friends at his local stomping grounds.

Surviving are his three daughters, Covi (James) Herb of Franklin Park, Yoli (Howard Pennington) Alvarez and Monsi (Doug) Anderson of Moon Township; his son, Robert “Pio” (Kelli) Alvarez of Langeloth; six grandchildren, Brandon Pennington, Laura, Emily and Elizabeth Herb, Cameron Anderson and Alyssa Alvarez; two great-grandchildren, Madyson and Isabella Pennington; two sisters, Lucinda and Fina Alvarez Fernandez, both of Spain; four sisters-in-law, Felisa, Montse, Maria Esther and Milagros Cora, all of Spain; and many nieces and nephews.

He also leaves behind a special friend, Carmen Munoz of Spain.

On April 19, 1957, he married Leonila “Nila” Cora Alvarez, who died April 22, 2001.

Also deceased are three brothers, Eloy, Manuel and Tony Alvarez, and a sister, Maria Alvarez Fernandez.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Taucher Funeral Home, 23 Erie Mine Road, Burgettstown, where a blessing service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, with the Rev.
