Original founder, owner of Miller Centrifugal Casting

William Howard Miller, 82, of Mt. Lebanon, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2013.

He was the beloved husband for 58 years of Anne Mosites Miller; father of William R. Miller (Diana), Mark G. Miller (Kimberley) and Nancy Snyder (David); grandfather of Russell H. Miller, Randall W. Miller, Chelsey M. Stallard (Larry), Jessica L. Dymond (Christopher), Christian Miller, Alena King (Ben), Alyse Lyons, William R. Miller, Kristina W. Miller, Lukas M. Miller, Talin Cooper, Brittany Hunsberger (Alan), David Snyder and Lauren Feldbauer (Michael); and great-grandfather of Grace Miller, Braylon Stallard, Kellan Stallard and Gavin Hunsberger.

Mr. Miller was born in 1931 and raised in Whitewater, Wis., a son of Dr. Russell H. and Lucille King Miller and brother of Marian Miller Cook.

He graduated in 1953 from the University of Wisconsin with a bachelor of science degree in metallurgical engineering.

He started on offense and defense and was the place kicker for the Wisconsin Badgers football team. In 1999, the College of Engineering of the University of Wisconsin awarded Mr. Miller its Distinguished Service Citation for his pioneering work in the field of centrifugal casting.

After college, Mr. Miller served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army.

In 1955, Mr. Miller married the love of his life, Anne Mosites, and moved to her hometown, Pittsburgh.

In 1958, he started Miller Centrifugal Casting Co. in Cecil Township. He began the company as a one-man operation and grew it to be a world leader in centrifugally cast products. His company produced highly engineered components for military jets, nuclear submarines, aircraft carriers, mine sweepers, hydroelectric dams, large electric motors, cranes, elevators and steel mill rolling equipment. He sold his company in 1998, and it continues to operate under the name of Miller Centrifugal.

Mr. Miller loved the game of golf and infused his passion into the next two generations of his family. He was a member of Valleybrook Country Club from its inception. Mr. Miller competed in club championships and on the club’s traveling team.

He also served on Upper St. Clair School Board and coached Little League football in Upper St. Clair.

Since 1973, he lived in Mt. Lebanon and, after selling his business, spent the winter months in West Palm Beach, Fla.

He positively influenced and improved the lives of many people during his 82 years.

His family loves him, misses him and is comforted by the outpouring of support.

Arrangements by Beinhauer Funeral Home, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray, 724-941-3211. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 14, in Southminster Presbyterian Church, 799 Washington Road, Mt.
