Hollis D. O’Brochta
Former Rices Landing resident was legal secretary
Hollis D. O’Brochta, 87, of Westminster, Md., formerly of Rices Landing, died suddenly and peacefully in the early hours of Wednesday, June 12, 2013, in Carroll Hospital Center, Westminster.
She was born September 25, 1925, in Waynesburg, a daughter of the late Ralph E. and Myrtle Cole Dowlin.
Mrs. O’Brochta was a graduate of Jefferson High School, Class of 1943. She attended Penn Commercial College, gaining legal secretarial skills.
She worked as a legal secretary for the Greene County District Attorney office and an attorney firm in Maryland.
Mrs. O’Brochta was an active member of Hewitt Presbyterian Church in Rices Landing and Order of the Eastern Star 135 in Waynesburg. She served as regent for Daughters of the American Revolution, Greene Academy chapter.
On July 1, 1950, she married Andrew A. O’Brochta, who died June 26, 2005. They had been married for 55 years.
Surviving are three daughters, Valerie Fyans and husband Chris of Horsted Keynes, England, Andrea Hauff of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Hillary O’Brochta of Finksburg, Md.; four grandchildren, Tyra Little and Declan, Cavan and Aidan Fyans; and three great-grandsons, Drew, Kai and Jory.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg, Md. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, in First Presbyterian Church of Westminster, 65 Washington Road, Westminster, with the Rev. Walt Peters officiating. A second service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, in Hewitt Presbyterian Church, 1206 Crucible Road, Rices Landing. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Morgan Township.
